Boston Symphony Orchestra will present a new work dedicated to the memory of the late Berj Zamkochian and commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide with performances on:

Berj Zamkochian, a native of Boston, was a frequent collaborator with the BSO and a world renowned organist. He devoted his career to the Armenian people. He established the Gomidas Organ Fund to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Armenian composer, priest and ethnomusicologist Gomidas Vartabet. A former Board member of the Friends of Armenian Culture Society, Zamkochian was instrumental in establishing the tradition of Armenian Night at the Pops through his cooperation with the late Arthur Fiedler, founder and Music Director of the Boston Pops, and family friend Robert C. Hagopian. |
The Boston Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Andris Nelsons will present the world premiere of Ascending Light, a new work for organ and orchestra by celebrated composer Michael Gandolfi, written in memory of the late Berj Zamkochian, a frequent collaborator with the BSO and world renowned organist. The new work will be performed on March 26, 27, 28 and 31, 2015.
