Boston Symphony Orchestra presented a new work dedicated to the memory of the late Berj Zamkochian and commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide with performances on:

Berj Zamkochian, a native of Boston, was a frequent collaborator with the BSO and a world renowned organist. He devoted his career to the Armenian people. He established the Gomidas Organ Fund to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Armenian composer, priest and ethnomusicologist Gomidas Vartabet.

A former Board member of the Friends of Armenian Culture Society, Zamkochian was instrumental in establishing the tradition of Armenian Night at the Pops through his cooperation with the late Arthur Fiedler, founder and Music Director of the Boston Pops, and family friend Robert C. Hagopian.
The Boston Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Andris Nelsons presented the world premiere of Ascending Light, a new work for organ and orchestra by celebrated composer Michael Gandolfi, written in memory of the late Berj Zamkochian, a frequent collaborator with the BSO and world renowned organist. The new work was performed on March 26, 27, 28 and 31, 2015.

Past Events at the Methuen Memorial Music Hall

Methuen Memorial Music Hall, initially named Serlo Organ Hall, was built by Edward Francis Searles to house "The Great Organ", a very large pipe organ that had been built for the Boston Music Hall.  Learn more at wikipedia >>

On April 9, 2000, Berj Zamkochian and the Festival Orchestra marked the 30th anniversary of the Gomidas Organ Fund at the Methuen Memorial Music Hall. The Festival Orchestra was under the direction of Jeffrey Brody, who was also represented on the program as composer of a work to receive its first performance. "The Haec Dies" (This is the Day) for organ and orchestra was composed by Brody for this gala 30th - anniversary celebration, and it was dedicated to organist Berj Zamkochian.

In 2008, through the generosity of the Gomidas Organ Fund, Inc., a new artists' room was built in memory of the late organist Berj Zamkochian, a frequent performer at the Music Hall.



In 2010, the Gomidas Organ Fund, Inc.underwrote a series of six annual "Berj Zamkochian Memorial Organ Recitals".
